Tax Debt Relief
When the balance has become the problem
Back taxes, unfiled returns and collection notices don't resolve themselves, but they are resolvable. As a California-licensed CPA, Logan Allec holds unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS — and handles the state side with the FTB and CDTFA as well.
Request a ConsultationWho this is for
- Riverside taxpayers with IRS or California FTB back taxes they can't pay in full
- People with one or more years of unfiled federal or state returns
- Anyone who has received IRS notices or letters and isn't sure how to respond
- Wage earners facing an IRS garnishment, or account holders hit with a bank levy
- Business owners with FTB income tax or CDTFA sales tax issues
- Taxpayers selected for an audit who want professional representation
What's included
- Transcript and account review
- A full pull of IRS and state transcripts to establish exactly what is owed, which years are unfiled, and where collection activity stands.
- Back-tax and unfiled return preparation
- The missing returns prepared and filed so the actual liability replaces the agency's estimate — which is usually higher.
- Installment agreements
- A structured payment arrangement negotiated with the IRS or FTB based on what your finances support.
- Offer in compromise analysis
- A calculation of what the IRS's own formula says about your case, and an offer prepared and submitted where the numbers genuinely support one.
- Currently not collectible status
- Where paying anything would prevent you from covering basic living expenses, a request to pause active collection.
- Penalty abatement
- Requests to remove or reduce penalties where first-time relief or reasonable cause applies to your facts.
- Levy and garnishment release
- Direct contact with the IRS or FTB under Power of Attorney to release wage garnishments and bank levies once a resolution is in motion.
- Audit representation
- Representation before the IRS or state agencies during an examination, so you don't face it alone.
How it works
A straightforward process
- 01
Get the real numbers
With a signed Power of Attorney, we pull your IRS and state transcripts and find out exactly where you stand — balances, missing years and active collection.
- 02
Stabilize the situation
Unfiled returns get filed and urgent collection action — a levy or garnishment — is addressed first, before longer-term options.
- 03
Resolve and stay current
We pursue the resolution your finances actually support and set you up to stay compliant, so the problem doesn't return.
Questions we hear often
I haven't filed returns in several years. Where do we start?
By getting the transcripts, not by guessing. We pull your IRS and California FTB records to see exactly what the agencies believe you owe and which years are missing, then file the required returns in an order that stops the problem from growing. You can't negotiate a balance until the filings are current.
Can the IRS actually settle a debt for less than I owe?
Sometimes, through an offer in compromise — but the IRS accepts one only when its own formula says the amount offered is the most it could reasonably collect. Anyone who promises a specific reduction before reviewing your finances is not being straight with you. We calculate what the formula says about your situation first, and tell you plainly whether an offer is realistic or whether an installment agreement makes more sense.
The IRS is garnishing my wages or levying my bank account. What can be done?
Levies and garnishments can usually be released or reduced once you're in a recognized resolution — a filed return, an installment agreement, currently not collectible status, or a pending offer. The first step is contacting the IRS on your behalf with a Power of Attorney in place and proposing that resolution. Speed matters here, so this is treated as the priority.
I received an IRS or FTB notice I don't understand. Do I need help?
Not every notice means you're in trouble — many are mismatches between what you reported and what a third party reported, and some are simply wrong. But every notice has a deadline, and ignoring it converts a fixable mismatch into an assessed balance. We read the notice, pull the underlying records, and respond in writing before the deadline.
What's different about California tax debt?
California has its own collection agencies — the Franchise Tax Board for income tax and the CDTFA for sales and use tax — and they operate independently of the IRS, often faster and with fewer procedural pauses. A resolution with the IRS does nothing for an FTB or CDTFA balance. State issues need their own strategy, which we handle alongside the federal side.
Why work with a CPA on tax debt instead of a tax relief company?
Logan Allec is a California-licensed CPA, and a CPA license carries unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS — the same standing as a tax attorney for these matters. You know exactly who is handling your case, that person is accountable to a state licensing board, and the work is done by the person you spoke with rather than a call center.
